Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote the book The Power of Positive Thinking (available to order here) in 1952. It remains popular even today and has sold around five million copies to date. His theory that positive thoughts can and will influence your success in life was controversial and generally discarded at the time by the psychiatric community.
Dr. Peale went on to become one of New York City’s most popular and respected ministers and to publish a pamphlet called Guideposts that recounted inspirational stories from celebrities and famous people. He became famous for his message around the world. His ideas about positive thinking are much more accepted today yet I doubt that even he could explain the reasons why the concept has worked and continues to work today.
The reason that positive thinking is so powerful is that, according to quantum physics, your thoughts have a frequency and a corresponding unique vibration that will attract other aligned frequencies into your life; so, negative thoughts equal negative events; positive thoughts equal positive events. If you have fearful thoughts about what might happen to you, your family, your nation, the economy, the world, etc. the corresponding frequency of these thoughts will draw these energies into your life and be fed by any on-going fear that you direct toward it. Try to eliminate fear messages from the media that attempt to bombard your consciousness.
So, you probably want to know how to do this as it is very difficult to keep one’s thoughts positive all the time. What should you do if you find negative thoughts creeping in? Don’t panic as this happens to everyone. You can correct this easily. Here is some advice that has served me well over the years. Let’s say you have just interviewed for a job and you find yourself thinking, “Oh well, there are too many people applying for this job, I don’t have a chance.” Quickly correct yourself by saying, “It’s not like me to think so negatively. I am the best qualified job applicant and I will get an offer for this job.” Then make it a habit to repeat this in your mind whenever you think about the job interview.
If you would like to utilize some self-hypnosis tools to enhance your positive thinking, you can find them here:
For those of you on a spiritual path, it is particularly important that you practice positive thinking. As you raise your own frequency and become more psychically clear, you will find that you will manifest your own thoughts very quickly. That is because, as you travel higher along your spiritual path, you will be constantly eliminating the barriers to manifesting your own creations. Once those barriers are eliminated, your thought frequency patterns will quickly pull in the corresponding frequency patterns in your world and you can manifest your dreams.
It has been proven that the subconscious hears and reinforces your internal voice. If you concentrate on negative thoughts, your subconscious will pick it up. It then becomes embedded in your subconscious to be repeated, even if you are not aware of it.
If your humor tends to be on the cynical side, take care of saying things like “with my luck, there will be a traffic jam this morning” or “oh sure, like I’m going to win the lottery”. Your subconscious picks up the energy and frequency level behind your words even if your cynical mind is saying something different. So in addition to watching your words, watch any cynicism that might creep into your self-talk.
You can actually feel your personal frequency rise as you practice positive thinking.
Exercise to Keep your Thoughts Positive
First, take time to listen to some great instrumental music, really concentrating on the music itself. You can find some great selections here. This music will open your body and mind to new possibilities.
Sit down and make a list of positive statements that could affect your life and your current situation. Things like, “I make more than $100,000 per year; I have a great romantic relationship; I live in my perfect house in the perfect location”.
Now close your eyes and repeat these statements and sense the frequency of the statement itself. What does it feel like to make more than $100,000 per year? Let yourself bask in the high level frequency of that statement. Now move to your next statement and so on. When you have finished the list, take note how much better you feel. Raising your frequency in this way will raise the frequency of your entire mind, body and spirit. Learn to live in this space and good things will come your way.
If you think that this feels very much like practicing positive affirmations, you are correct. Rather than just rote repetition, however, I am asking that you take the time to really sense the high frequency of the statements that you have created. If you would like to know in more detail what to do when positive affirmations stop working, see the article here. The practice of positive thinking can change your life. As you continue to watch your personal self-talk and make a conscious effort to raise your frequency when you get up each morning, you will find yourself attracting good things into your life. These things are not necessarily the affirmations that you have been working on. They could be good things that you never even thought to make into an affirmation.
That’s because high level frequencies attract other high level frequencies. There is a magnetism and synergy among common frequencies, both high level and low level. You will find this synergy working for you rather than against you when you consciously start the practice of positive thinking.
