Seven Stress Relief Techniques
Stress relief techniques can become tools for you to enhance
your prospects for success. We never perform at our best when we are under
stress. Despite the pressures we are under in business, the resulting stress
can actually cause us to underperform in our jobs. It can be a vicious cycle –
you work harder to obtain your goals and the resulting stress keeps you from
achieving those goals.. It’s important for you to know some stress relief
techniques. These techniques can put you in a more relaxed state of mind where
you will become more effective.
The Seven Stress Relief Techniques
are seven stress relief techniques that
you can use to your advantage:
- Take a walk in nature. If you can find a place that has lots
of trees, this is your spot. Take a minute to appreciate the greenery trees and
other flora around you. The trees have a very high frequency and will lift you
out of any stress or depression that you may be experiencing. Nature is
designed to nurture us. If you can do it, take your shoes off and put your bare
feet in the grass. This is a method called grounding and it will immediately begin
to calm your body completely and relieve stress. Enjoy this for as long as you
can, at least 15 minutes.
- Listen to some music that you enjoy. Musical notes will open
up all of the energy centers in your body and allow you to relax. It’s best to
do this when you can close your eyes and really concentrate on the music, but
it’s okay to do this in your car as well. Concentrate as much you can on the
music, while still driving safely. It will immediately start to de-stress you. You can find some great selections here.
- Enjoy a hobby. Maybe
this is playing golf, swimming or just taking a walk. Remember, the time you
spend away from work is just as important as the time you spend working. Find
an activity that you enjoy and take some time for yourself. In my positions as
a sales manager and salesperson, I experienced a great deal of stress. A great
stress relief technique is to completely take yourself out of the situation
that is stressing you and turn to something else that you enjoy. Don’t feel
guilty about using this time for enjoyment rather than working. The time you
spend away from your job will make you far more productive and efficient when
you return to your work. You will gain new route perspectives and be able to
solve problems better and faster when you completely take yourself out of the
- Practice deep breathing. If you are at work and need to
de-stress without leaving the office, you can do this at your desk. Close your
eyes, take a deep breath in through your nose and let it out slowly through
your mouth. Continue breathing and try to make each breath longer than the
prior one. Soon you will develop a rhythm. Continue that rhythm until you feel
your body start to relax.
- Read a book that is totally unrelated to
work. Lose yourself in a novel, a mystery or any book that you enjoy. Make sure
you are not thinking about work as you read this book. Let yourself go into
another world and leave your work completely behind.
- If you have a pet, spend some time with the animal. Playing
with the dog or cat will instantly take you to another world. Animals are pure
unconditional love and they will transmit this love you. Accept it and just
enjoy interacting with your pet. This is a great way to de-stress at the end of
- Go see a good movie. Movies are designed to surround us with
sight, sound and emotion and a very relaxing environment to take our minds off
of other subjects while the movie is playing. You will spend 90 to 120 minutes
completely thinking about something other than work. This can be extremely
relaxing and refreshing. When you come out of the movie theater and think about
work again you will see that you have a different perspective.
